How to install a native Brother driver in Windows XP
(For a Parallel Cable User)

Description:

Once the native driver file has been downloaded from the Brother Solutions Center web site, you must uncompressed it. To do that, create a folder on your PC hard disc and then copy the driver file to that folder.

Now run the file and the files will be extracted to the folder you created.

Now connect the Printer/MFC machine to your Windows XP computer and the "New Hardware Wizard" should automatically start. If it doesn't, reboot your Windows XP PC and the "New Hardware Wizard" should start. At this point follow the steps below.

Please note:
*Remove Software Suite CD-ROM before commencing installation through New Hardware Wizard.
Use drivers from web.

*the model name shown is for illustration purposes only.
*For Printer User: the installation step will be completed at Step6.

How to set up?

  1. Select the "Install from a list of specific location (Advanced)" and click "Next".
  1. Click the "Include this location in the search:" option and then click the browse button and specify the location of the XP driver that you downloaded from this web site.
    Check CD-ROM drive is empty before clicking "Next".
    Click the "Next" button when you have correctly specified the location of the driver.
  1. You will then see a screen explaining that the driver you are installing has not passed the Windows Logo test. Click "Continue Anyway" to proceed with the installation..
  1. Windows XP will then continue to copy the files to your PC.
  1. You will then see the same screen as you saw in step 3. Click the "Continue Anyway" button to continue the installation.

    This screen will appear 4 more times. Each time that it appears, click the "Continue Anyway" button.
  1. After some more files are copied you will see the following screen (please note the image next to the Brother model name will vary).

    Click the "Finish" button
  1. The "Found New Hardware Wizard" screen will appear again.

    Select the "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)" and click "Next".
  1. Click the "Include this location in the search:" option and then click the browse button and specify the location of the XP driver that you downloaded from this web site. Click the "Next" button when you have correctly specified the location of the driver.
  1. You will then see the Logo testing screen again. Click the "Continue Anyway" button to continue the installation.
  1. The "Completing the Found New Hardware Wizard" screen will appear again. (Please note the image next to the Brother model name will vary).

    Click the "Finish" button.
  1. You must now repeat steps 7 - 10 for a total of 3 times as each of the appropriate drivers are installed. Simply follow the screen prompts specifying the location of the driver file and accepting any messages about Logo testing.
  1. Driver installation is complete when you see the final screen informing you that the "Remote Setup Port" driver is installed.

    At this point, click the "Finish" button the the device is now ready to use.
