If there is no in-box driver or native Brother driver available
for your product you must install an alternative in-box driver
in order to use your Brother printer. Refer to the following
table for the appropriate alternative driver suitable for your printer.

Follow the steps outlined below to install a Brother printer
into a Windows XP PC if you have not downloaded a specific
Windows XP driver from the Brother Solutions Center web site.

When you connect a device that does not already
have an in-box driver, Windows XP will display the following screen.
Option 1
Select the "Install the software automatically
(Recommended)" option and click "Next".
Option 2
Click the "Install from a list or specified location
(Advanced)" option and click "Next".

Option 1 (There is an in-box driver available on the Microsoft XP web site)

If you select the "Install the software automatically
(Recommended)" option then your PC will attempt
find the driver on you PC hard disc. If the driver
is not available you will see the following screen.
Click the "Finish" button.

Your PC will now attempt to access the Windows XP web
site to see if there is a suitable Brother driver. If there
a driver is available Windows XP will automatically download
it and you will be able to use your printer. If a driver
is not available, exit the installer, switch your Brother
device off and then on again and proceed with the steps
detailed below.
Option 2 (There is no in-box driver available anywhere)

Having selected the "Install from a list or
specified location (Advanced)" option from the
"Welcome to the Found New Hardware Wizard"
screen you must specify the appropriate in-box driver,
click the "Don't search, I will choose the driver
to install" option and click "Next"

Now specify the hardware type by scrolling down
the list and selecting "Printers".

Select the appropriate printer from the supported
Brother device list and click "Next".

for the appropriate alternate driver.

Click the "Finish" button to complete
the installation of the driver.
