Printing the Euro symbol from Windows 98/Me systems

The Windows 98/Me operating systems supports the Euro symbol by default. However, you may need to make a modification in your printer driver. There are generally two types of driver depending on the capabilities of your Brother product - PCL or BR-Script (Brother's Postscript language emulation).

PCL Printer drivers

A PCL printer driver is typically used on monochrome laser printers. Many of the printers in this table only have PCL printer drivers. For those printers that are capable of printing in PCL and BR-Script (Brother's PostScript language emulation) you will see a PS symbol "PS" next to the model name. If you are using one of those printers, we recommend that you check both tables.

  1. Select the "Quality" tab in Printer Properties.
  2. Select "Manual" in Printer Setting and then click "Setting".
  3. Deselect "Use Printer TrueType Fonts" in TrueType Mode.
  4. Select "Download as Bit Image" or "Print as graphics" in Mode.
HL-2400C(PS)/2400CN(PS)
  1. Select the "Control/Maintenance" tab in Printer Properties.
  2. Click the "Advanced" Option.
  3. Deselect "Use Printer TrueType Fonts" in TrueType Mode.
  4. Select "Download as Bit Image" or "Print as graphics" in TrueType Mode.
HL-660/660(PS)/665

For all countries except the USA

  1. Select the "Detail" tab in Printer Properties.
  2. Click "Setup" and click "Options".
  3. Deselect "Use Printer TrueType Fonts" in TrueType Mode.
  4. Select "Download as Bit Image" or "Print as graphics" in Mode.

For the USA

  1. Select the "Detail" tab in Printer Properties.
  2. Click "Setup" and select the "Config" tab.
  3. Deselect "Use Printer TrueType Fonts" in Font.
  4. Select "Download as Bit Image" or "Print as graphics" in Mode.
HL-960(PS), HL-1260(PS)
  1. Select the "Detail" tab in Printer Properties.
  2. Click "Setup" and click "Options".
  3. Deselect "Use Printer TrueType Fonts" in TrueType Mode.
  4. Select "Download as Bit Image" or "Print as graphics" in Mode.


BR-Script (Postscript language emulation) drivers

Brother has actively supported the Adobe's Postscript language for many years. Our emulation of Adobe's Postscript is 'BR-Script'. Our printers generally offer either BR-Script Level II or
BR-Script Level III, these are functionality equivalent to Adobe's Postscript Level II and Postscript Level III.

From Windows 98/Me the Euro symbol should print without any problem, however, if the Euro symbol isn't printed do the following:

  1. Select the "Advanced" tab in Document Defaults.
  2. Select "TrueType" and then select "Download as Softfont".
